aishot · macOS capture
~ $ open -gna AIShot --args --capture
Take the shot. It lands in the app you chose.
Keep Claude, Antigravity IDE, or any other destination one click away in the menu bar. Every capture goes there no matter which app was in front — or choose Automatic to keep frontmost-aware routing. # every shot is still saved as a real PNG.
- $ destinationyour chosen app receives every capture, regardless of what was frontmost.
- $ paste-asAutomatic, PNG image, or file path — choose what the destination receives.
- $ menu barcapture, switch destination, open settings or the screenshot folder, and quit.
the real friction
The screenshot was never the hard part.
To show an AI what's on your screen you capture it — then hunt through Finder for the file, or drag it into the chat window. Every single time. The friction isn't the shot. It's the shuffle afterward.
one hotkey, done
Capture, and it's already in the conversation you chose.
The lightweight viewfinder menu starts at login: switch destination, open Settings, or click Capture Screenshot…. You can also press your hotkey and drag a region — Space grabs a whole window, Esc cancels. The one-shot capture process saves the PNG, hands it off, and exits.
how it works
Set one destination — or keep it Automatic.
Name
aishot — choose a destination from the menu bar, then hand every shot there. Automatic preserves frontmost-app routing.
And always — saved as a real file · Screenshot 2026-07-08 at 11.09.27 AM.png
what it does
Small on the surface, precise underneath.
Region or window, chosen app or Automatic, path or image — every part is tuned to make showing the AI what you see one motion.
Region or window
Drag any region, or hit Space to grab a whole window.
Paste format control
Choose Automatic, PNG image, or file path for your destination.
Destination auto-open
A configured app is opened when needed and activated before ⌘V by default.
Saved as a file
Native macOS naming, archived the moment it's captured.
Menu-bar control
Capture, switch installed destinations, open Settings or your screenshot folder, and quit.
One-shot capture workers
The menu host stays ready; each capture runs separately and exits when the handoff is done.
open & honest
Honest tools age better than magic ones.
MIT-licensed, with the full source on GitHub. And the rough edges, up front:
- Not notarized — downloaded builds need a one-time "Open Anyway" under Privacy & Security.
- Two one-time permissions: Screen Recording, then Accessibility for the synthesized ⌘V. Until Accessibility is granted it still copies to the clipboard.
- If a configured destination cannot be opened or activated, AIShot sends no ⌘V and leaves the capture on the clipboard.
- Source builds automatically use a
TechJuice Local Code Signingcertificate when available. The installer preserves permissions while the signing requirement matches and resets only when it changes; without the certificate, ad-hoc updates may need reapproval. - No account, no telemetry, no upsell.
install it
Download, drag, open once.
macOS 14+. Drag AIShot.app into /Applications and open it once — it installs its own menu bar agent and comes back at every login. It is not notarized, so the first launch needs a one-time "Open Anyway" under Privacy & Security, or clear the quarantine flag first. Prefer to build it yourself? That needs Xcode Command Line Tools and ends in exactly the same place. Karabiner also ships ⌘⇧2 for one-shot capture.
